Personal trainers, personal computers, personal dating services.... Why not personalized nutrition? After all, we are what we eat!
Nutrigenomics, or "personalized nutrition" has emerged as a field with growing interest. With additional technological advances in science and more attention given to nutrition, why not apply the human genome to nutrition and personal health?
By looking at a human beings' genetic makeup and nutritional needs, scientists hope that consumers may one day have the ability to reduce their risk of disease.
Research in this area, however, is in the preliminary steps, and current attempts to apply this approach have found only limited success.
Both environmental factors and complex interactions within the human body make this area a challenging study, and most applications have only been general in nature.
At the very least, it will continue to challenge the scientific and academic communities to explore the relationships that exist in the human body and how food and nutrition impact this relationship.
